Premio In classe 2025
The XXV edition of La Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo will be celebrated globally from 13 to 19 October 2025.
This year’s theme, “Italofonia: lingua oltre i confini – Italophony: Language Beyond Borders”, celebrates the linguistic, cultural, and social space of Italian. It envisions a new global community brought together by a shared passion for the language and, through it, a deep connection to Italy. The program will explore the fascinating journey of Italian across the world—a story shaped by its rich history, migration, and vibrant cultural heritage.
To celebrate the Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo, Co.As.It. Brisbane/Melbourne/Sydney, IAWCC and Il Globo TV announce an Australian competition for students of Italian.

Secondary School
Year 7 & 8 Category
Albero della Cultura - Italian Words in English
To participate to the competition, students in Years 7 and 8 are invited to create their own ‘Tree of Culture’ (Albero della Cultura). Each branch of the tree represents a cultural theme where Italian has left its mark on the English language, for example: food, fashion, music, art, and more.
Students will investigate how many Italian words have entered the English language in these areas. They are encouraged to conduct their own research and present their findings in a creative format. This could include posters, videos, digital presentations, artistic projects, or any original idea that captures their discoveries in an engaging way.
The activity celebrates the rich influence of Italian culture around the world and helps students recognise the connections between languages.
Year 9 & 10 Category
Italian Fruit and Vegetables in Australia: A Cultural Journey
Students in Years 9 and 10 are invited to explore the story of how Italian fruit and vegetables were introduced to Australia and the lasting impact they have had on Australian food culture.
Students will conduct research on the arrival of Italian produce, the role of Italian greengrocers (fruttivendoli) in communities across Australia, and how these foods have influenced everyday cooking, eating habits, and cultural traditions.
Participants will present their findings through a short video, documentary, or interview, creatively showcasing the connections between migration, food, and cultural identity.
This project invites students to reflect on the deep roots of Italian culinary heritage in Australian society and celebrate the flavours that have become part of the national table.
Year 11 & 12 Category
Then and Now: Migration to Australia
Students in Years 11 and 12 will explore and compare two important migration stories: the arrival of Italian migrants to Australia after the Second World War and the experiences of young migrants arriving today.
Through research, students will examine the reasons for migration, the challenges faced, and the opportunities found in Australia in each period. They will consider aspects such as work, language, cultural adaptation, and community life, highlighting similarities and differences between the two experiences.
Participants will present their findings in the form of a video interview or report, creatively bringing to life the voices and stories of migrants from different generations.
This project encourages students to reflect on how migration has shaped Australia’s society and identity, and how these stories continue to evolve.
